Purpose:

Incision and drainage of infected Bartholin gland cyst or abscess.

Indication:

Relief of tender, painful mass on labia minora. Drainage is the primary method of therapy.

Advantages:

Immediate relief of pain when Bartholin gland is incised and drained. Word Catheter keeps gland open so it can continue to drain until a new orifice is formed.

Limitation:

In more severe cases, sitz baths and systemic antibiotics may be indicated.
