Abbreviated Information:

A sterile disposable device consisting of clear plastic tissue collection chamber, with cone filter, funnel, two sealing caps, reclosable poly bag with identification label, and one of several types of curettes as illustrated to be used with a suction source such as a pump or wall suction unit. Endometrial tissue is collected directly into the collection chamber, thereby eliminating the need to transfer the tissue sample into another container. The unique design of the collection chamber or trap assures ease of determining when an adequate sample has been obtained. The design also facilitates the routine handling of the tissue by ordinary procedures of any pathology laboratory. The self-contained trap minimizes the time and problems in handling the tissue sample.

Sizes 5mm > recommended for patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding where additional suction and/or larger curette sizes are needed. Also useful in menstrual regulation, incomplete abortion, menorrhagia, metrorrhagia and other menstrual disorders.

Purpose:

1. Diagnostic: Obtain clearly differentiated endometrial tissue with or without anesthesia in an office setting. Diagnostic accuracy of histology of the endometrium is far superior to that of cytology.
2. Therapeutic: Empty contents of uterine cavity:
   1. Following spontaneous incomplete abortion
   2. Prior to hysteroscopy
      • To clear the visual field in patients with uterine bleeding.
   3. Menorrhagia and metrorrhagia

Indications:

1. Detection of endometrial hyperplasia
2. Detection of endometrial cancer
3. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
4. Initial endometrial biopsy prior to prescribing estrogen replacement therapy to ensure endometrial lining is normal
5. Extraction of uterine menstrual content
6. Following spontaneous abortion
7. Hysteroscopy
8. Examination of glandular epithelium to determine ovulation and endometrial response to hormonal excretion and therapy
9. Prior to endometrial ablation in patient with dysfunctional uterine bleeding (to clear visual field)

Advantages:

• The Tis-U-Trap is a low-cost device available in multiple sizes and styles for use in both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• The convenience of collecting endometrial tissue directly from the uterine cavity into the collection chamber saves valuable doctor time and decreases the probability of losing tissue sample during the transfer of tissue from one chamber to another.
• Sizes may be assorted (10 TUT per box: sizes can be assorted.) to allow for the widest range of uses.

Limitations: Requires a suction pump capable of reaching 25-27 inches Hg of negative pressure.

Contraindications:

• Contraindicated in the presence of any vaginal, cervical, and/or pelvic infection(s). Infections must be treated prior to any endometrial curettage or biopsy.
• In general, the same criteria for regular hospital D & C should be followed for office suction curettage.

  The smaller sizes are especially useful in early detection of endometrial carcinoma or its precursors and endometrial dating or when minimal amount of tissue needed.
