Uterine Explora Model II
with Vacu-Lok Syringe

Billing Information:
CPT Code: Procedure: 58100
Supplies: 99070

Milex Product Codes:
#130

Histology:
Endometrial Tissue Retrieval
Nylon Curette 7 3/4" long with Dual port design and Vacu-Lok Syringe.

  Latex Free
Uterine Explora

Abbreviated Information:

The dual port design is suitable for patients with low pain threshold or who are very apprehensive. Tissue is obtained via a scraping and peeling action. Vacu-lock syringe allows you to adjust the suction from approximately 15 to 20 Hg negative pressure. (6cc to 12cc)

Purpose:

Obtain clearly differentiated endometrial tissue usually without anesthesia in an office setting. Diagnostic accuracy of histology of the endometrium is far superior to that of cytology.

Indications:

  1. Detection of endometrial hyperplasia
  2. Detection of endometrial cancer
  3. Initial endometrial biopsy prior to prescribing estrogen replacement therapy to ensure endometrial lining is normal
  4. Periodic monitoring of endometrial tissue in women receiving estrogen replacement therapy
  5. Endometrial dating
  6. Examination of glandular epithelium to determine ovulation and endometrial response to hormonal excretion and therapy
  7. Detection of pathology resulting in infertility
  8. Endometrial biopsy for postpartum endometritis
  9. Bacterial culturing
  10. Monitor patient receiving TAMOXIFEN therapy for breast cancer
  11. Secondary amenorrhea

Advantages:

  • Dual Port design ideal for patient with low pain threshold or extreme anxiety
  • Better sampling from all areas
  • Flexible nylon curette
  • Ease of insertion
  • Better sampling from difficult-to-reach cornual areas
  • Rounded end and collar ring minimize possibility of perforation
  • Added suction from Vacu-Lok Syringe.

Limitations:

  1. Small lumen curettes are contraindicated in patient with a large cervical os because there is the loss of suction around the curette.

    Recommendation:
Cannula-Curette with Handyvak Locking 60cc Syringe or Tis-U-Trap.

  2. Small lumen curettes are contraindicated in patient with dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Clots can clog curette.

    Recommendation:
Cannula-Curette with Handyvak Locking 60cc Syringe or Tis-U-Trap.

Contraindications:

Contraindicated in the presence of any vaginal, cervical, and/or pelvic infection(s). Infections must be treated prior to any endometrial curettage or biopsy. In general, the same criteria for regular hospital D & C should be followed for office suction curettage.

General:

Total physician time 5-15 minutes
